Drive Census, Cut Turnover, & Reduce Stress Regardless of Market Conditions

The stresses of struggling to manage occupancy and maintain staffing levels are foremost in the minds of most administrators, nursing directors, and other healthcare leaders these days. Many leaders do not realize there are proven principles and strategies that improve census and staff recruitment and retention without adding significantly to operational costs.

You cannot afford to miss this insightful presentation and the chance to learn:

  • The most significant factor driving both occupancy and staffing

  • How to ‘close the back door’ by helping your residents make significant improvements

  • Out-of-the-box strategies to create a community others will buzz about

  • Strategies to find and retain A-players

  • How to stand out in the ‘sea of sameness’

…and MUCH more!

How Studying Animal Behavior Can Tell You Everything You Need to Know about Human Behavior

When bees need to communicate with one another, they do a waggle dance; when squirrels live in small social groups, they are willing to risk their lives for one another and when a bald eagle constructs a nest, it spends hours and hours, flying miles and miles, in search of the best material. However, as soon as its baby eagles are hatched, they start tearing the nest apart, right out from beneath them.

Studying animal behavior (called “ethology”) can provide a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight into our own behavior, because animal behavior is mostly instinctual, rather than learned.

By studying instinctual behavior in animals, we can get a better understanding of our own human behavior, which, for those of us who work directly with an varied group of individuals from different backgrounds, can be extremely valuable.

This program is designed specifically for people who work in the Activities department in nursing homes. It is a fun seminar that will have you laugh, think and smile.

Participants will:

  • Develop a rich understanding of animal behavior that will enable them to understand the complexities of human behavior.

  • Learn the difference between instinctual vs learned behavior.

  • Learn why and how the environment (external pressures) affect behavior.

  • Learn how and why group size affects behavior.

Developing Future Strategy in the Aftermath of a Pandemic

2020 was a year unlike any other in our lifetime. For providers caring for the elderly, it was a year of bold heroism in the face of unprecedented challenges such as supply chain disruptions, worsened staffing challenges, medical supply shortages, unexpected loss of life and exhausted caregivers.

CMS is giving us no indication that they are going to lay off skilled nursing facilities any time soon. In fact, the direct opposite appears to be looming with the push for tougher regulations, loftier non-compliance fines and ongoing national facility closures.  This session will bring forward discussion on lessons providers have learned and how we can use these as steppingstones to change strategic operations in preparation for “the new norm.”

  • Review new and proposed regulatory standards under the CARES Act and the enhanced enforcement actions for non-compliance.

  • Describe the process changes leaders need to make to prepare their operations for the next infection control threat.

  • Recognize the power of data management and quality assurance in ensuring your operations are on the right track.

Activity Programming: The Keystone of Operation Effectiveness

Ac􀆟tivity Programming: The Keystone of Opera􀆟on Effecti􀆟veness
For most of long-term care history, the acô€†Ÿtivity department in many faciliô€†Ÿties has been treated as a necessary but less important part of the organizaô€†Ÿtional structure—a way to keep residents
occupied while professionals go about the challenging tasks of finding new residents, moving them in and assis􀆟ting them with medicati􀆟on, food, ADLs, managing chronic illnesses and other
physical needs. This engaging presentati􀆟on will turn such thinking on its head and help par􀆟ticipants see their role in the organiza􀆟tion in a new light
Par􀆟ticipants will explore:

  • How to use the actiô€†Ÿvity department to fuel high occupancy

  • Ways programming can be used to increase both staff and resident retenô€†Ÿtion

  • How programming does more to communicate what you believe and value than any other aspect of the organizatiô€†Ÿons.

  • How to overcome “departmentalized” thinking

  • Ways to leverage great programming that leads to beô€†©tter survey outcomes

  • Ways the industry can and should set our own measures of success rather than relying on surveys and rules to set the bar.
