May 9 - 15, 2021 is National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), a week that celebrates those who live and work in Skilled Nursing Facilities, more commonly known as nursing homes. These residents and caregivers are deserving of this celebration every hour of every day of every year, but this year - there is much to celebrate. Residents and caregivers have overcome much in the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic. But NH residents and caregivers have achieved the highest vaccination rates in the country - and there are lighter days ahead, so CELEBRATE!
As we move toward the last weeks of the legislative session, use NSNCW as your opening to reach out to your NH State Senator and inviting them to stop in and meet with a group of residents and caregivers, outside and socially distanced. Are they available on short notice to visit this week and celebrate with you? Can they block out a few moments of time within the next week or two?
While they are there - this is YOUR opportunity to educate them on the many successes and challenges there are in long-term care, specifically in your facility. Rising costs, declining workforce, and residents who DESERVE the quality care that YOU provide despite these challenges.
As we've said, familiarize yourselves with the issues, find stories which will put a face on the challenges you face, and tell the Senators HOW THEY CAN HELP!
