Carol Raco, Director, Pet Therapy Program at Rockingham K9, has volunteered at local animal shelters for the past 16 years and has organized and managed an all-volunteer pet therapy program. In addition, she has been involved in volunteer recruiting training along with evaluations. As director of pet therapy for Rockingham K9, she also coordinates with Activity Directors of various facilities including nursing homes, rehabilitation, retirement homes, and recently a youth detention center to schedule weekly pet therapy. With her background it is no surprise that she landed her dream job as an Animal Facilitated Therapist at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital.

 

Jeff Payne, President of Rockingham K9, Inc. has owned Anitech Dog Training for 25 years and deals with all types of dog behavioral problems. Jeff also worked for the nation’s largest service dog agency for 15 years, working with individuals with physical challenges and their newly acquired service dog, making sure both were functioning as a team. Jeff also volunteers for canine search and rescue teams to help find lost hikers, hunters, and others. Currently president of Rockingham K9, Jeff works with the search and rescue as well as the pet therapy division of the organization.

There are many areas of billing that many Long Term Care professionals aren't even aware of. This program is designed to offer a detailed look at the fundamentals of successful billing practices for the SNF. Topics for discussion will include COT and EOT claims, MSP claims, ADR requests, ambulance billing, G code validation, vendor billing, the significance of month and ancillary input, what we aren't billing and how we can be preventive with denials. In addition, there will be an emphasis on reviewing denials and how to correct them to get better collections. Though it's important to make sure you are properly capturing all the services being provided to residents and generating the proper revenue, this program helps you develop best practices for collect it and make the entire process better!

 

Participants will:

 

  • Learn the Basics of the Medicare System FISS. Here the audience member will understand the 4 components of the Medicare Product as well as learn the FISS system and screens that will assist with billing.

  • Learn how to address ADR Requests. With MDS changing and the CERT process increasing, the ADR request will be reviewed to validate what documentation should be sent and in the proper format.

  • Review MSP- Medicare Secondary Payer Claims. Everyone hates to bill an MSP claim right? In this session we will review key value and insurance codes to accurately bill MSP claims. Several Examples will be shown as part of training.

  • Learn G Code Billing Fundamentals. Several issues surround the G code billing under Medicare Part B. The overview will cover the different G Codes, modifiers and ICD-9 coding that should follow the claim.

  • Receive a Managed Care Overview. With the changes in healthcare- come the changes in managed care insurance. This overview will identify revenue codes, excluded services, PFFS, and contract negotiating.

  • Learn about Private Collection. In this section of the program the attendee will be provided with some of the best practices for billing collection that help reduce the DSO.

 

Karen Connor, MHA, is the owner of Connor LTC Consulting. As a Long Term Care specialist her focus is not just the clinical but also the financial reimbursement aspect for Skilled Nursing Facilities. With a background in healthcare compliance, case management, clinical reimbursement, managed care contracting and business operations, Ms. Connor, has been successful with all areas of revenue enhancement. As a senior advisor to numerous healthcare periodicals, she provides seminars, articles and webinars on the changes that impact the geriatric population for skilled nursing facilities.

Understanding key elements, common mistakes and charting systems will assist facilities to produce documentation that will assist in your overall success. This program will provide the complete description of best practice documentation and provide examples of “Chart This, Not That.”Participants will:· Learn the importance of documentation from a clinical and legal perspective· Gain knowledge on how documentation can serve as a great communication tool.· Learn at least two helpful tips or best practices to improve the documentation process.

 

Ms. Darling has 13 years of experience in the LTC industry, specializing in reimbursement, regulatory compliance, Quality Improvement, and Therapy Department Development. Ms. Darling has spent 10 years as the Corporate Director of Rehabilitation Services for a multi-facility company. Her responsibilities included rehabilitation department development and oversight, Medicare and Medicaid case mix maximization, RAI/MDS compliance and education, Medicare Part B revenue, QI Tool development and monitoring, audit response, including appeals and Activity Department oversight. She has been a leader in developing,implementing, educating and monitoring a wide variety of skilled nursing home initiatives including MDS utilization, PPS billing, Medicare and Medicaid Case Mix, restraint and device reduction, falls, accidents and incidents including root cause analysis and nursing rehabilitation programs. Ms. Darling is a strong proponent of the QI process and serves as senior examiner for the Silver AHCA National Quality Awards.
